Climax – Human, I’m Sneaking up on the Climax creativity and Plots, Entertainment and Excitement

Zen of Scenes

1 December 2014, this blog is about writing in scenes.  I’m focusing on the tools to build scenes.  I’ll leave up the parts of a novel because I think this is an important picture for any novelist.  I’m writing about the climax.

1. The beginning
2. The rising action
3. The Climax
4. The falling action
5. The dénouement

Announcement:  By the time you read this, my new series novels titled Ancient Light will be published.  Ancient Light includes Aegypt, Sister of Light and Sister of Darkness.  If you are interested in historical/suspense literature, please give my novels a try.  You can read about them at http://www.ancientlight.com.  I’ll keep you updated.

Today’s Blog: The skill of using language in a large degree comes from the ability to put together figures of speech that act as symbols in writing.

Here are my rules of writing:

1. Entertain your readers.
2. Don’t confuse your readers.
3. Ground…

NaPoWriMo, or National Poetry Writing Month, is back!

NaPoWriMo is an annual project in which participants write a poem each day in April. It unfolds in the tradition of NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month, held in November) and motivates, inspires, and engages poets of all levels, genres, and backgrounds.

While a poem a day is your ultimate goal, there’s really no “right” way to participate. Start today and keep at it, and experiment as you see fit. Focus entirely on sonnets, or experiment with free verse. Participate on your own, or collaborate with others. Publish on your blog, or experiment offline.

Ideas to get started

  • Publish poems each day, focusing on a different genre each week.
  • Handwrite poems in a journal, for your eyes only.
  • Start a collective with others, plan themes for April, and publish poems on your own blogs focused on these themes.
  • Create a new blog or group site specifically for this monthly challenge.

Welcome Back

On behalf of Fintan, Dominic, Kelly and David we would like to welcome all new and old members of the Compass Writers Group back after the summer.

We hope everyone enjoyed their break and have some great stories to tell through all the different mediums of writing.

We had a great turn out for our first meeting of the new year and it looks like we are hitting the ground running. We have a lot of hopes for the coming year and can’t wait to get started.

We hope everyone is ready to knuckle down and run with us as we have a high bar set for this year and it’s going to be great fun. Who says you can only have fun in the sun?

Summer Writing

As the summer is starting to draw to a close, I would like to remind you of the fantastically apt poem Fintan brought to us at the beginning of the summer.

People turn to you because
you give voice to dreams,
notice little things, and make
otherwise impossible imaginings
appear real. You are a rare
bird who thinks the world is
beautiful enough to try to
figure it out, who has the
courage to dive into your wild
mind and go swimming there.
You are someone who still
believes in cloud watching,
people watching, daydreaming,
tomorrow, favorite colors, silver
clouds, dandelions, and sorrow.
Be sacred. Be cool. Be wild.
Go far. Words do more than
plant miracle seeds. With you
writing them, they can change
the world.
